Townsville’s Integrated Litter Management Strategy was developed as a dynamic document to ensure a whole-of-council approach to litter and to encourage broad community participation in preventing and reducing litter. Townsville works closely with its twin city of Thuringowa so that their combined actions have similar goals and results. A strong Don’t Waste Townsville campaign has been adopted for the city and similar campaigns have been implemented for selected areas, such as the Murray Sporting Complex and Magnetic Island. Integral to these campaigns is a range of media activity and advertising, static and mobile signage, placards, and promotional giveaways. Townsville’s dynamic and proactive approaches to litter management and education produce positive results that are evident throughout this clean city.
